You're Having a Baby!

I'm almost three months pregnant. I'm expecting my first baby to be born July of this year. It's quite exhausting honestly but I'm not complaining. I almost lost my baby.

November 2010.

I knew something was up when my period got late, my taste buds acted all funny and I started hating the smell of my favorite perfume. I was nervous but excited at the same time. By this time, I was too busy preparing for my best friend's wedding (I was the Maid of Honor) and I had the pregnancy test by November 25th, incidentally our monthsary.

It was positive. My Dydy and I decided to go to Marikina Valley Medical Center on the 27th, where I had my first prenatal check-up. My OB-GYNE was very supportive and friendly. She gave me all the necessary medicines, asked me to undergo an ultrasound and to stop worrying.

Work was a bit stressful. We're at the peak of our workloads that's why we had to render after-work overtime, including pre-shift overtime.

My ultrasound result came on December 11th. I finally saw my baby! I was crying (tears of joy) when the sonologist showed me the screen:

I was shocked to hear that I have internal bleeding. My OB-GYNE told me not to get too concerned because it will only stress me out, furthering the bleeding. I was advised to get a week's bed rest.

December 14th, 11.30PM, 2nd day of my bed rest.

I was preparing for bed when I felt something weird. It's like I was peeing but not really. Suddenly, blood was flowing all over my legs. I screamed! I thought I was having a miscarriage. My mother called Dydy and I was rushed to the hospital at 1 in the morning of December 15th.

I was confined for 3 days. My OB-GYNE did an emergency ultrasound and thank God, my baby's still there!

I was advised to have a month-long rest (bed rest, which meant I can't go to work, have to stay indoors and drink my Duvadilan, Duphaston and Ceecon religiously for a week). Good thing my boss agreed or else, I wouldn't have any work.

TIPS ON BEING PREGNANT:
  1. Do your prenatal check-up. Make sure that you have an OB-GYNE who's always there in case of emergency. Speed dial your doctor's number in your mobile.
  2. Don't hold anything when talking to your doctor, from any hypertension history in the family to medicine allergies.
  3. Drink two glasses of Anmum daily (or as prescribed).
  4. Make sure you drink your medicines. Remember, this is about your baby's health.
  5. Do follow-up check ups.
  6. When advised to have bed rest, make sure you stay in bed! I almost lost my baby when I didn't follow the doctor's advice.
  7. Don't be scared. Talk to your parents and your husband/boyfriend/fiance. This is something you want to share with your loved ones.
  8. Avoid stress. Think happy thoughts.
  9. Although you are allowed to eat anything, make sure you stay away from too much salt, sugar and oil in your diet. This is to avoid any complications during childbirth.
  10. If you have hypertension (like me), monitor your BP.

Things to do during pregnancy:

  • Take a folic acid supplement (consult your OB before doing this)
  • Follow a healthy diet
  • Cut down on caffeine, quit smoking and best to avoid alcoholic beverages
  • Know the date of your last menstrual period and take this information on your initial visit to your OB
  • Check out your local hospital for birth packages
  • Get fitted for a maternity bra
  • Read all about it. Better to be informed than be clueless
  • Pack your hospital bag (I’ll do another blog post for this)
  • Prepare your birth plan with your husband
  • Don’t skip on any of your OB visits. Make sure your OB’s number is on your speed dial in case of emergency
Fast forward to today.

So far, I'm doing great. With the stress of work far behind me and my wonderful Dydy up to the job of being a Father-to-be, the only problem I have now is planning the wedding. On my next post, I'll provide you with tips on how to survive planning a wedding in two months, without a WEDDING PLANNER! Well, we're on a budget because of several things happening this year.
Please keep your fingers crossed for me and my baby.
